Cheap Imitations

This wasn't actually one of my projects. It was one my mom did and she made one for me as well. These books pictured above are $39.99 on the Pottery Barn website. "We’ve taken authentic vintage books and turned them into art objects by removing their covers and binding them together in sets of four." And as much as we love Pottery Barn, we're cheap and we enjoy a good project. So she copied them and made one for herself and one for me.

Here is mine (in front of the ice bucket I found at Salvation Army for $1.50... but that's another story!) How adorable is that? I love it. She said they were so easy to make. She bought old paperbacks from a thrift store, ripped the covers off and tied them in a stack using twine. I bent up the corners of the pages a little because I wanted even more of a vintage feel.

Love Is In the Air

It's almost February, which of course means time for some Valentines Day crafts! I made these felt hearts last night that I plan to glue magnets onto the back and use as refrigerator magnets for the holiday. I think I also want to make a couple larger ones with a loop of rick-rack on the top to hang them on doorknobs. I love felt! It's so cheap and easy. You can't argue with 25¢ per sheet!

I cut out patterns on paper first, then pinned them to the felt.

Then cut, sew, done! Added some buttons for character.

And so it begins...

If you were to look at my Facebook page, you'd think all I do is refinish old furniture and work on other crafty projects. I need a new outlet to show off my projects - and hopefully find other bloggers to follow and get new ideas from! :)

I'll start it off by posting pictures of my most recent project, a $10 Salvation Army stool I painted and recovered. When I saw it I immediately said "OMG it's so cute!" and my boyfriend, Tim, responded with a grimace. I love being able to see the potential in a piece of old furniture that others don't see.

Here it is in my car on the way home.

After sanding and 3 coats of paint that I already owned from a previous project. Still has the original fabric on it. Didn't have the fabric yet but couldn't wait to see what it'd look like with the top back on.

And the completed project (next to a thrift store dresser I fixed up a while back).

My mom stenciled this fabric for me using fabric paint and a wall stencil! She did a fabulous job. Isn't it perfect?

And so there it is! Hopefully I can keep at this thing and come back later to show off another project! Until next time!
