<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-akwkI7kcPMs/Txj6V2hwLRI/AAAAAAAAAOE/7l8eJuAOwAA/s1600/IMG_0026+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="387" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-akwkI7kcPMs/Txj6V2hwLRI/AAAAAAAAAOE/7l8eJuAOwAA/s400/IMG_0026+-+Copy.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
WOW, it's been a while! I haven't stopped doing projects - just haven't gotten to posting them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Been busy with work and the holidays.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found this little frame at a thrift store for $4.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mn9M6sZAwFo/Txj6hKQy--I/AAAAAAAAAO8/MSuSerE1IF4/s1600/frame+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mn9M6sZAwFo/Txj6hKQy--I/AAAAAAAAAO8/MSuSerE1IF4/s320/frame+before.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been needing a bigger tray on my dining room table, but it's also always bugged me that you can hardly see what's on my table past the chairs, so when I saw this frame, I figured I'd make a tray out of it and why not add some little wooden feet to give it some height too?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z2b1d3m4Vto/Txj6XHkfUaI/AAAAAAAAAOM/-wEqXJNvq68/s1600/IMG_0026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="289" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-z2b1d3m4Vto/Txj6XHkfUaI/AAAAAAAAAOM/-wEqXJNvq68/s320/IMG_0026.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I just painted with 1 coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in "Old White"...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q60cW38xdkE/Txj6X8zDTLI/AAAAAAAAAOU/mcHii59IbGU/s1600/IMG_0027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q60cW38xdkE/Txj6X8zDTLI/AAAAAAAAAOU/mcHii59IbGU/s320/IMG_0027.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I seriously just hot glued the feet onto the cardboard on the back of the frame!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fkelaIHBV0Q/Txj6ZRkThuI/AAAAAAAAAOc/TmmUCOZDrYk/s1600/IMG_0030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fkelaIHBV0Q/Txj6ZRkThuI/AAAAAAAAAOc/TmmUCOZDrYk/s320/IMG_0030.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cut a little burlap to put in the frame and done! So easy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The whole thing took me maybe an hour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also, did you notice this just beyond the dining room table?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P872mId0dts/Txj6cRnCsBI/AAAAAAAAAO0/ZRP23RclLKU/s1600/IMG_0042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P872mId0dts/Txj6cRnCsBI/AAAAAAAAAO0/ZRP23RclLKU/s320/IMG_0042.JPG" width="253" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made this just a few days ago also. It was a $2 mirror from a thrift.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Spray painted with chalkboard paint and put Ms. Gracie Wiggles' name on it so she'd feel special. LOL!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3dQpJu7ojEo/Txj6bYZcAbI/AAAAAAAAAOs/Xp6oa3Sm0Js/s1600/IMG_0041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3dQpJu7ojEo/Txj6bYZcAbI/AAAAAAAAAOs/Xp6oa3Sm0Js/s320/IMG_0041.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What a brat! I chuckle every time I see her go to her bowl now. It's just so silly!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, until next time...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><div style="text-align: center;">It's been a while since I posted, but I have been up to a few things! Just too busy to post them!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I finally got my hands on some <a href="http://www.anniesloan.com/">Annie Sloan Chalk Paint</a>! Luckily Canabananas at The Market, within 5 minutes from where I live, happens to stock ASCP and I decided to start off with some Old White to paint this $6 thrift store vintage suitcase I found.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Before:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1tKEw3VGatI/ToJVA3NCELI/AAAAAAAAAMc/qohh4zfFt04/s1600/suitcase+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1tKEw3VGatI/ToJVA3NCELI/AAAAAAAAAMc/qohh4zfFt04/s400/suitcase+before.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">After:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ni1D5xw-lYs/ToJVBP_H5TI/AAAAAAAAAMg/cSmX8HyTP0Q/s1600/suitcase+closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ni1D5xw-lYs/ToJVBP_H5TI/AAAAAAAAAMg/cSmX8HyTP0Q/s400/suitcase+closeup.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I love the inside. It's in such great shape.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3qt1LOpc994/ToJVBVWOkjI/AAAAAAAAAMk/APjPdwqEbfs/s1600/suitcase+inside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3qt1LOpc994/ToJVBVWOkjI/AAAAAAAAAMk/APjPdwqEbfs/s400/suitcase+inside.jpg" width="393" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I had to tape off the fabric on the inside so I could paint that little ridge just above it. It took forever painting around that and the hardware, but I'm so happy with how it turned out! Luckily ASCP is awesome and it only took 2 coats - if the original color wasn't so dark, it would have only taken one I'm sure. I could just <i>barely </i>see color peeking through after the 1st coat.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also bought the ASCP clear wax and want to put it on this eventually, I just haven't found the time for it yet. I haven't used a wax before and figured I should get acquainted with the clear before I try the dark wax!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Until next time,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://modvintagelife.blogspot.com/2011/06/mod-mix-monday-6.html"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rKnEfuSX3_g/Tgj8Z_bsJnI/AAAAAAAAALk/y6eS5Q7grJo/s1600/ModMixMonday.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">If you haven't yet, you should give her blog a peek. I've been following her for some time. She has tons of great ideas and pictures of her own home, along with inspiring photos of other homes she either visits in her <a href="http://modvintagelife.blogspot.com/2011/06/open-house-sunday-x.html"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;">Open House Sunday</span></a> edition or from other designers.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is a photo from Nita's recent $20 kitchen makeover. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://modvintagelife.blogspot.com/2011/06/economical-tile-fix.html"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9htYnMkotZc/Tgj_6js0bLI/AAAAAAAAALo/su75aou4AoY/s400/MVLkitchen.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And one of her most recent projects - this adorable periwinkle table.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://modvintagelife.blogspot.com/2011/06/accent-table.html"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QxW6n-977qk/TgkARMQ9uEI/AAAAAAAAALs/QLuMkiyJy_w/s400/MVLtable.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">On a random note, I'm going to have to post pictures of the awesome huge skeleton key and the vegetable strainer (I think? I'm using it as a key/junk holder on the entryway table! lol) that I got today at the thrifts on my way home after work. I'll try to get those up sometime soon. I love finding uses for things other than what they were intended for!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Until then,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

"Spritz of Lime" is the name of the color I chose for my new sofa table and I'm loving how it turned out! I think it's just the burst of energy the living room / dining room of my apartment needed =)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">Before:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-drF2bR0-kjY/Tf5QJEHLQ1I/AAAAAAAAALg/97lH_MzJs6Y/s1600/IMG_1696.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="202" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-drF2bR0-kjY/Tf5QJEHLQ1I/AAAAAAAAALg/97lH_MzJs6Y/s320/IMG_1696.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q86a6Cy9TLE/Tf5OzfafiZI/AAAAAAAAALQ/Bl_8dEKCkvQ/s1600/IMG_1717.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q86a6Cy9TLE/Tf5OzfafiZI/AAAAAAAAALQ/Bl_8dEKCkvQ/s640/IMG_1717.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1BfoS_iy0_U/Tf5OyVCNt6I/AAAAAAAAALM/skMsHM58mqs/s1600/IMG_1716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="375" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1BfoS_iy0_U/Tf5OyVCNt6I/AAAAAAAAALM/skMsHM58mqs/s400/IMG_1716.JPG" width="475" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I originally considered painting the cane a creamy white, but after painting it all green I decided I like it and I'm going to keep it how it is. It's been a while since I painted a piece of furniture a bright, funky color (the side table next to my sofa is a bright coral) so this was really fun to paint.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And also as promised, the finished product of the small table I painted a while back. It's now in my bedroom with the TV on it. Not exactly my original plan for it (I had planned to sell it) but we needed a table for the TV and it works perfectly, so I'm going to keep it for now. Please ignore the ugly cords underneath it =P</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gJOrYpPU6cQ/Tf5O0jx_NhI/AAAAAAAAALU/tXV7zu_Al1g/s1600/IMG_1718.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gJOrYpPU6cQ/Tf5O0jx_NhI/AAAAAAAAALU/tXV7zu_Al1g/s400/IMG_1718.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fB5FnpZdG30/Tf5O1oytZ8I/AAAAAAAAALY/XlGXIy2Tvfg/s1600/IMG_1719.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fB5FnpZdG30/Tf5O1oytZ8I/AAAAAAAAALY/XlGXIy2Tvfg/s400/IMG_1719.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Until next time,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h_AWMfmb-Xc/TfOuDQJMMRI/AAAAAAAAALA/VerN5mqa020/s1600/IMG_1701.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h_AWMfmb-Xc/TfOuDQJMMRI/AAAAAAAAALA/VerN5mqa020/s400/IMG_1701.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is my mantle for now. I'm still getting settled in so I'm sure I'll end up changing things. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U6nJwqGufWk/TfOuD9ZVJqI/AAAAAAAAALE/ugjQfUAvDHs/s1600/IMG_1702.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U6nJwqGufWk/TfOuD9ZVJqI/AAAAAAAAALE/ugjQfUAvDHs/s400/IMG_1702.JPG" width="367" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">For instance, I really want to dry brush a pallet white with a simple wreath on it, similar to this photo below of Donna's mantle at <a href="http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com/">Funky Junk Interiors</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X04BvLVUAZI/TfOwwrbS7VI/AAAAAAAAALI/gZoHjOIMs-A/s1600/funkyjunkmatle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X04BvLVUAZI/TfOwwrbS7VI/AAAAAAAAALI/gZoHjOIMs-A/s400/funkyjunkmatle.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://funkyjunkinteriors.blogspot.com/">Funky Junk Interiors</a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My little thrift store owls found a new home hanging out with the awesome vintage suitcase and metal basket my mom found for me.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wWCqCSwIWnI/TfOuAE6npdI/AAAAAAAAAKw/Q1XYBXDIrfU/s1600/IMG_1695.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wWCqCSwIWnI/TfOuAE6npdI/AAAAAAAAAKw/Q1XYBXDIrfU/s400/IMG_1695.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And last but not least, I have already found a new project. There was one wall in the dining room of the apartment that was just so bare and it needed something. Luckily there are 3 or 4 thrift stores near my new job (yay!) so I wasted no time after work to stop in there. I found a sofa table that was just the right size for the space I wanted to fill for just $20.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hIB9KP0wPKo/TfOuAlubUpI/AAAAAAAAAK0/xQ98ebI1gGg/s1600/IMG_1696.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hIB9KP0wPKo/TfOuAlubUpI/AAAAAAAAAK0/xQ98ebI1gGg/s400/IMG_1696.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The top needs a little T.L.C. I think I'm going to paint the table an apple green a little lighter than the color of the suitcase pictured above, with the cane on the bottom and some details on the legs white.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0jRvsz4TN8o/TfOuBuw1CsI/AAAAAAAAAK4/M6dcVCrL1W0/s1600/IMG_1697.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="397" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0jRvsz4TN8o/TfOuBuw1CsI/AAAAAAAAAK4/M6dcVCrL1W0/s400/IMG_1697.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Excited to get started on it, but the paint will have to wait until payday next week =P</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In my next post I'll FINALLY share the after pictures for the table I painted a while back. I have more room in this new apartment so I ended up just keeping it. I'm bad about that, but hey I needed a table for the TV in our bedroom now!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" /></a></div>KTbeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271099895915876159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519778168443463074.post-34125805045359193532011-05-24T21:43:00.000-07:002011-05-27T08:10:24.342-07:00Ugly Desk Makeover!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tz3OqU13yxg/TdyCjJyRZyI/AAAAAAAAAKI/4VF4GSAzj-k/s1600/IMG_1632.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="352" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Tz3OqU13yxg/TdyCjJyRZyI/AAAAAAAAAKI/4VF4GSAzj-k/s400/IMG_1632.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Whew! What a long weekend! I'm happy to announce that on Friday I was offered a job at a wonderful nursing home in Midwest City, OK. So everything has been set into action and my boyfriend and I are moving to Oklahoma City next week!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">...Which meant I had to finish this desk more than ever! My mom picked it up for me since she has more space to work than me. She was a huge help. We finished everything, except spray painting the hardware, on Saturday!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Here is the before:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-puSqdTRX0so/TdyC0G3f1KI/AAAAAAAAAKM/eGBA51Irtn8/s1600/IMG_1622.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="335" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-puSqdTRX0so/TdyC0G3f1KI/AAAAAAAAAKM/eGBA51Irtn8/s400/IMG_1622.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">U-g-l-y. And dark. It was just a cheap Craigslist find that I found a while back. It was the right price and my boyfriend needed a desk. It fit the small space we had so we bought it. It's been patiently waiting for months now to get a makeover.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My inspiration was <a href="http://missmustardseed.blogspot.com/2011/04/painted-desk.html">this Miss Mustard Seed desk</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Af3mbAd4T6k/Tby00ilrjxI/AAAAAAAAIEo/1osHxmg473M/s576/040+copy.jpg" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I even have a chair that looks incredibly similar to the one in her photo that I plan on using with the desk.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I wish the color of the hardware showed up better in my pictures. It's a really pretty dark chocolate color with a little bronze shimmer. The brown tone is so pretty on the blue drawers.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hVOix6CK59Y/TdyG4i8aCLI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/NG47Iu0_gUI/s1600/IMG_1633.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hVOix6CK59Y/TdyG4i8aCLI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/NG47Iu0_gUI/s400/IMG_1633.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'd like to lightly distress the edges, but I left it this way for now. I'm a little nervous to do it. It's a cheap desk. Pretty sure it's that stuff with like paper over particle board, so I'm afraid of how that might work (or not work!).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mpkdFOdCngA/TdHm_tYfTdI/AAAAAAAAAKE/HbsxPMU5vgk/s1600/IMG_1597.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="316" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mpkdFOdCngA/TdHm_tYfTdI/AAAAAAAAAKE/HbsxPMU5vgk/s400/IMG_1597.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">...and I LOVE this set of three little owls I found today for <b>$1.50</b>! They're solid brass. They're so cute! They just make me happy looking at them =)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">On another note, I've been pretty busy lately and the side table I've been working on kind of fell on the back burner. I'm hoping I'll be able to finish it up this weekend, and I'm definitely going to be painting my boyfriend's ugly desk this weekend. So more furniture makeovers soon to come!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" /></a></div>KTbeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271099895915876159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519778168443463074.post-49014114933502874512011-04-26T15:07:00.000-07:002011-04-26T15:07:55.647-07:00Cheap Thrills<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XjMUZ9lqs2M/Tbc_vnCaAJI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/juyOSIi6sWM/s1600/IMG_1555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XjMUZ9lqs2M/Tbc_vnCaAJI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/juyOSIi6sWM/s320/IMG_1555.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XjMUZ9lqs2M/Tbc_vnCaAJI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/juyOSIi6sWM/s1600/IMG_1555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a>I love a quick, easy project from a cheap find at a thrift store. I found this little tray earlier today for 50 cents.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r54Refgm1FE/Tbc_rdoUKMI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/5WJH4tOU5nQ/s1600/IMG_1553.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r54Refgm1FE/Tbc_rdoUKMI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/5WJH4tOU5nQ/s320/IMG_1553.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I wanted to put my address number on the tray and didn't have the stencils for it, so I just printed out some numbers, cut them out, traced onto the tray with a pencil and filled them in. It's just as well - the lines won't be perfect on the bumpy tray anyway. I now have the tray hanging as a plaque on the wall in my kitchen =)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NzU1WH0hUls/Tbc_swGXhMI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/sBYntcjsg4w/s1600/IMG_1554.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="172" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NzU1WH0hUls/Tbc_swGXhMI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/sBYntcjsg4w/s320/IMG_1554.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Also, I'm currently working on this small side table below that I found at a thrift store for $10. I have painted it white, distressed it and now glazed a small section of it, but I don't like how dark it is so I'm going to have to paint over that and water the glaze down a bit with paint thinner next time. I'll definitely post pictures when I'm finished with that, hopefully after this weekend.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7bxjJ0r45Ew/TbdBi-CiVOI/AAAAAAAAAKA/6ydBGHelQ8g/s1600/IMG_1507.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7bxjJ0r45Ew/TbdBi-CiVOI/AAAAAAAAAKA/6ydBGHelQ8g/s320/IMG_1507.JPG" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Until next time,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" /></a></div>KTbeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271099895915876159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519778168443463074.post-74433898788132409012011-04-08T06:51:00.000-07:002011-04-08T06:51:45.114-07:00It's my Birthday! ...and recent projects!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As the title says, it's my b-day today! And this little bird was my birthday present to myself! lol!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jIXEFe0v7Qg/TZ8MfccqKwI/AAAAAAAAAJA/6P6VawN8I4o/s1600/IMG_1432.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jIXEFe0v7Qg/TZ8MfccqKwI/AAAAAAAAAJA/6P6VawN8I4o/s320/IMG_1432.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
Anyway, on to the projects! I have several small projects I finished this week. First I'll show you the stool I mentioned in my last post. Unfortunately I was so excited to get started on it that I completely forgot to take a before picture. I'm so bad about that. But it was a plain-jane light stained wood legs with a cheap fabric someone had tried to recover it using tape! Here it is after I worked on it...</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d6p5xCJMlt4/TZ8NVRgaRJI/AAAAAAAAAJE/w7F5HK7r3UE/s1600/IMG_1460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d6p5xCJMlt4/TZ8NVRgaRJI/AAAAAAAAAJE/w7F5HK7r3UE/s320/IMG_1460.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RQjxUHAcpls/TZ8NY8A_nDI/AAAAAAAAAJI/xdUU5x26BbY/s1600/IMG_1462.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RQjxUHAcpls/TZ8NY8A_nDI/AAAAAAAAAJI/xdUU5x26BbY/s320/IMG_1462.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nG66w35zCiQ/TZ8NeCUTZ3I/AAAAAAAAAJM/eneAJMjbr9w/s1600/IMG_1466.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nG66w35zCiQ/TZ8NeCUTZ3I/AAAAAAAAAJM/eneAJMjbr9w/s320/IMG_1466.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The paint on the legs is a pale blue/gray color. I then lightly distressed it and finished it off with a brown glaze. I stenciled the 4 onto the fabric before stapling it onto the stool. I wanted to get in on the number craze and thought it was perfect for this little guy.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I also picked up this cute little guy for $2 to make a gift for someone.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v1dGzMaRCgM/TZ8ObiQxIKI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/e8C6wPWY7c8/s1600/IMG_1435.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v1dGzMaRCgM/TZ8ObiQxIKI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/e8C6wPWY7c8/s320/IMG_1435.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
I used the same exact technique (and the same paint colors) as the <a href="http://ktbeesblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/pb-inspired-candelabra-makeover.html">candelabra</a> I did not long ago and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I hope the person I give this to loves it as much as I do =)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4fLOkKxbiqQ/TZ8O_UyhSWI/AAAAAAAAAJU/ZIxO4_XzZJE/s1600/IMG_1456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4fLOkKxbiqQ/TZ8O_UyhSWI/AAAAAAAAAJU/ZIxO4_XzZJE/s400/IMG_1456.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vn1hkQDMxAc/TZ8PDM9CPAI/AAAAAAAAAJY/EUy9kmdLMr8/s1600/IMG_1459.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vn1hkQDMxAc/TZ8PDM9CPAI/AAAAAAAAAJY/EUy9kmdLMr8/s320/IMG_1459.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also think it'd be a super cute with a fat candle sitting on it...<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gadGbL68li4/TZ8SrzVBbbI/AAAAAAAAAJw/dE-1MKBgNS8/s1600/IMG_1444.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gadGbL68li4/TZ8SrzVBbbI/AAAAAAAAAJw/dE-1MKBgNS8/s320/IMG_1444.JPG" width="191" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And last but certainly not least, my own little spin on <a href="http://mudpiesandmarigolds.blogspot.com/2011/03/okay-this-is-my-new-favorite-wreath.html">this wreath</a> from <a href="http://mudpiesandmarigolds.blogspot.com/">Mudpies & Marigolds</a>. It was very time consuming, but fun and cheap. I found the frame and the old book I used to tear pages out of from a thrift store for $1.40 total. Everything else I had.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-23fpZ6E1Lgo/TZ8QqYHNEMI/AAAAAAAAAJg/2-4rBnv_e0M/s1600/IMG_1451.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-23fpZ6E1Lgo/TZ8QqYHNEMI/AAAAAAAAAJg/2-4rBnv_e0M/s320/IMG_1451.JPG" width="277" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-miAaDEdmdF8/TZ8Q9PKHd9I/AAAAAAAAAJs/Wc_jth6JNNo/s1600/IMG_1470.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-miAaDEdmdF8/TZ8Q9PKHd9I/AAAAAAAAAJs/Wc_jth6JNNo/s320/IMG_1470.JPG" width="251" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then a few days later I found this frame at my favorite thrift store for <s>$6.99</s> $3.50! Gotta love half off day! I didn't paint it or anything. I loved it exactly how I found it. It's too bad you can't see the detail of the carving in it with my crappy phone pictures. It's fabulous!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ct6hD8q8WzY/TZ8QwR4CjYI/AAAAAAAAAJk/BrF8sv8Pxgk/s1600/IMG_1454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ct6hD8q8WzY/TZ8QwR4CjYI/AAAAAAAAAJk/BrF8sv8Pxgk/s640/IMG_1454.JPG" width="488" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Phew... that's enough projects for a little while. I'm appreciating my apartment being cleaned up again. I think I'll take a little break... but we'll see how long that lasts lol!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZaZMFZ43xAg/TYVcTJ6c44I/AAAAAAAAAIg/oSQeHpfu3bM/s1600/Katie+Signature.jpg" /></a></div>KTbeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271099895915876159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519778168443463074.post-24855437423248117892011-03-25T15:13:00.000-07:002011-07-13T16:08:28.899-07:00PB Inspired Candelabra Makeover<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-AUsboDJlwdU/TY0Q9i5i0XI/AAAAAAAAAIk/RlXNUq0MnUI/s1600/IMG_1378.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-AUsboDJlwdU/TY0Q9i5i0XI/AAAAAAAAAIk/RlXNUq0MnUI/s640/IMG_1378.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Sorry took so long to post! I'm really excited with how this turned out.</div><div style="text-align: center;">I found it at, of course, the thrift store for a couple dollars.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rllgLIayXmI/TY0Ra53emAI/AAAAAAAAAIo/0rkszQxKbgc/s1600/IMG_1319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rllgLIayXmI/TY0Ra53emAI/AAAAAAAAAIo/0rkszQxKbgc/s320/IMG_1319.JPG" width="228" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here it is before...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DDQ5AjZT2bM/TY0SE-W4SQI/AAAAAAAAAIw/p2ZZHgVpl-I/s1600/IMG_1334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DDQ5AjZT2bM/TY0SE-W4SQI/AAAAAAAAAIw/p2ZZHgVpl-I/s320/IMG_1334.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">First I took it apart and painted it a cream color I already had.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-r5z7Iht0VGk/TY0SKxdBGwI/AAAAAAAAAI0/_mGxpy265x0/s1600/IMG_1341.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-r5z7Iht0VGk/TY0SKxdBGwI/AAAAAAAAAI0/_mGxpy265x0/s320/IMG_1341.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Next I sanded kind of randomly to achieve a really worn out look. And for the final step, I dry brushed it with a grey and a brown paint. I wanted it to look really distressed and I'm really happy with how it ended up. I wish I had a photo of the Pottery Barn one I was trying to recreate.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-H3NH9SMTve4/TY0SuvaB2EI/AAAAAAAAAI8/2m1PsEGK9c0/s1600/IMG_1377.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-H3NH9SMTve4/TY0SuvaB2EI/AAAAAAAAAI8/2m1PsEGK9c0/s320/IMG_1377.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Also today I picked up an adorable foot stool. It had been recovered and whoever did it had tried to attach the fabric using tape, so it's a little lumpy looking. But it's in great shape and I'll be recovering it anyway. That will be my next project on here probably, although I've been pretty busy lately and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Found this little cutie at my favorite thrift store for $10.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Wc39Y0cTwYI/TYVX3srValI/AAAAAAAAAIM/-xxgpk6O81s/s1600/IMG_1113.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Wc39Y0cTwYI/TYVX3srValI/AAAAAAAAAIM/-xxgpk6O81s/s320/IMG_1113.JPG" width="255" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I painted it this cream color about a month ago and have been meaning to glaze and distress it, but I've never glazed anything before. I've put it off until Spring Break when I spent some time at my mom's house so she could help me get started on it since she has some experience with glazing furniture.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_xqwciBqusY/TYVYXVoJ3XI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/lVkOS31ro6A/s1600/IMG_1335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_xqwciBqusY/TYVYXVoJ3XI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/lVkOS31ro6A/s320/IMG_1335.JPG" width="262" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here it is before distressing and glazing...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">...and after! I'm really happy with how it turned out. I was nervous about nothing. Glazing it was actually fairly easy. Now I want to glaze everything! =P</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">If you haven't made these before, you won't believe how easy they are. And fast!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="236" j6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TIjJDz0_xoM/TWQpXQmn9EI/AAAAAAAAAHU/9eD5irQesA4/s320/IMG_1273.bmp" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="400" j6="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w_n6OjOz0uY/TWQpfXWkRlI/AAAAAAAAAHY/_GhgdL3mPMg/s400/IMG_1274.bmp" width="305" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><em>(on top of my $13 thrift store side table. i <strong>really</strong> wish i had taken a before picture!)</em></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">All the supplies you need: synthetic polyester silk fabric, beads, thread, scissors and a candle.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-swlMnf96puE/TWQqqv76BtI/AAAAAAAAAHk/AwEjYpv4tXU/s1600/IMG_1275.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" j6="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-swlMnf96puE/TWQqqv76BtI/AAAAAAAAAHk/AwEjYpv4tXU/s320/IMG_1275.bmp" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Cut the fabric into a square or circle. It's not critical for it to be perfect because you're going to be singeing the edges using the candle.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EQ0za0mtqAE/TWQrZ9b5oAI/AAAAAAAAAHo/-q_ddYgLYAw/s1600/IMG_1276.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="294" j6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EQ0za0mtqAE/TWQrZ9b5oAI/AAAAAAAAAHo/-q_ddYgLYAw/s320/IMG_1276.bmp" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Hold the edge of the fabric over the flame. You don't have to be very close - just close enough for the heat to singe the very edge of the fabric. This may take some practice at first. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sJ7SO-KCPqQ/TWQrgQdDIKI/AAAAAAAAAHs/l0xSVKLZDbc/s320/IMG_1277.bmp" width="245" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Repeat this step 3-4 times on different sized pieces of fabric to make the layers of your flower.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="262" j6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sxMAcdOdZGM/TWQsT11qhHI/AAAAAAAAAHw/0r7kNLgaWFg/s320/IMG_1279.bmp" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Once you're done, sew your bead(s) into the middle of the flower to hold the layers together.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t-S_pol-ku0/TWQuhVsXBfI/AAAAAAAAAH0/Rh5aUhRPw2A/s1600/IMG_1280.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" j6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t-S_pol-ku0/TWQuhVsXBfI/AAAAAAAAAH0/Rh5aUhRPw2A/s320/IMG_1280.bmp" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Voila!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pm4rWmXb7cs/TWQvYAEALaI/AAAAAAAAAH4/osfWawkfuv8/s1600/IMG_1282.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="337" j6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pm4rWmXb7cs/TWQvYAEALaI/AAAAAAAAAH4/osfWawkfuv8/s400/IMG_1282.bmp" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ah, now time to go do some laundry haha! Have fun making your flowers! I know I have :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Ta-ta for now,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Katie</div>KTbeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271099895915876159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519778168443463074.post-27844255361837953292011-02-17T18:48:00.000-08:002011-02-22T16:16:44.332-08:00Another project!I'm constantly stopping in a Salvation Army store that is on the way home from work. I don't usually take anything home, but you have to check regularly to find something cool - And yesterday I found this adorable mirror/jewelry holder for $4.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z3HHX7Lqan8/TV3an7AAKnI/AAAAAAAAAG0/bwpd7un2opI/s320/IMG_1238.JPG" width="221" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>First I took it apart and sanded it. There weren't many scratches on it, but I did have to knock down some of the shine for painting. I also had to glue one of the little feet back in. It was wobbly and about to fall out. Then I painted it with the leftover paint I used on my <a href="http://ktbeesblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/and-so-it-begins.html">stool</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="236" j6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RooosyYst2s/TV3bAAz_oFI/AAAAAAAAAG4/8W1scw3Llag/s320/IMG_1239.JPG" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">After it was all dry I put it back together and I'm so happy with how it turned out! And it was such a quick and easy project!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kb7HEZAgxGk/TV3bvXqiNnI/AAAAAAAAAG8/6zntMyJKimo/s320/IMG_1246.JPG" width="308" /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2GSnH96bKXE/TV3bxuU0ejI/AAAAAAAAAHA/FD3-ys1ttyc/s1600/IMG_1252.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2GSnH96bKXE/TV3bxuU0ejI/AAAAAAAAAHA/FD3-ys1ttyc/s320/IMG_1252.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I just love the little feet on the bottom! ...Now I just need to finally paint the necklace holder on the wall you can see in the reflection haha. I've been putting it off, but I can't have that sitting across the room from this adorable piece now!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">* On an unrelated note, my mom bought me a sewing machine yesterday. She found it on Craigslist for $30 and it was a total steal! It's a Singer and it's in great shape. I'm not sure when I'll get around to using it yet, but I'm so excited! *</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Chao,</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Katie</div>KTbeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271099895915876159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519778168443463074.post-19021384124516268912011-02-15T14:47:00.000-08:002011-02-22T16:18:03.909-08:00Harry Potter books have never looked so cool!<div style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QAI-GJNtnL0/TVr__qgdQGI/AAAAAAAAAD0/XxJNIjD0USs/s320/harry+potter+books.jpg" width="320" /></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Last night my boyfriend, Tim, and I had a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner at home. He cooked it! But I was sitting there after and thought how very boring my table is. Please ignore the fact that my dining room table (below) only has 3 chairs - Tim has one of them at his desk right now. But I felt like my table needed something but I just haven't done anything to it since I moved in.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AGzq8NQ6h_Q/TVr3kxzv4pI/AAAAAAAAADY/TXcTe09kDXg/s320/IMG_1219.JPG" width="240" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><em><span style="font-size: x-small;">boring</span></em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I've wanted some of those pretty, old vintage books with the wonderful designs on them and I've had my eyes out for some but just haven't found any yet. But I <em>do</em> have a lot of Harry Potter books! Then the idea occured that I should just cover them like we did in school! So I grabbed some scissors and brown paper bags and went to work...</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lpKvL8cFliY/TVr4snzijGI/AAAAAAAAADc/m4kE-wxzDUs/s320/IMG_1218.JPG" width="320" /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h9MBxkt8Vnk/TVr6Qv3SrtI/AAAAAAAAADo/msMnj_-hHEU/s1600/IMG_1211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h9MBxkt8Vnk/TVr6Qv3SrtI/AAAAAAAAADo/msMnj_-hHEU/s320/IMG_1211.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I used some jute webbing to add a little character to one. I covered several books last night. I think I might stencil some designs onto some of them eventually.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-clwr9KNWWb4/TVr5VsJh3VI/AAAAAAAAADg/CSAwpCDHzgo/s320/IMG_1216.JPG" width="240" /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wSbLFZW6KV4/TVr53dkErCI/AAAAAAAAADk/-DbKvteH4PY/s1600/IMG_1221.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wSbLFZW6KV4/TVr53dkErCI/AAAAAAAAADk/-DbKvteH4PY/s320/IMG_1221.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So yay! I'm much happier with how my table looks now! Much more intersting. (Thanks, Harry! lol) I had everything here already. The tray had been stacked with two others under my coffee table. And those adorable, tarnished vintage candle holders, I got the set for $1 at the Salvation Army not long ago. Gosh I love that place!</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" h5="true" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TXMqH7oHs2Q/TVsBg8gf4OI/AAAAAAAAAEE/qHpaOKe8v00/s320/IMG_1228.JPG" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em><span style="font-size: x-small;">more jute!</span></em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Also I should share another very simple project I did a few days ago. I brought this huge pickle jar home from work not long ago. Cleaned it up and tied twine around the top and pug some fruit in it. But it needed something else. Printed off a label from <a href="http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/">The Graphics Fairy</a> on sticker paper (I can't tell you how much I <strong>love</strong> TGF!) and just stuck it on there. Voila!<br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I love it! Now I just have to get some wax fruit to put in there because let's face it, I'm too lazy to keep it stocked with fresh fruit all the time.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;"><em><a href="http://www.potterybarn.com/">potterybarn.com</a></em></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">This wasn't actually one of my projects. It was one my mom did and she made one for me as well. These books pictured above are $39.99 on the Pottery Barn website. <em>"We’ve taken authentic vintage books and turned them into art objects by removing their covers and binding them together in sets of four."</em> And as much as we love Pottery Barn, we're cheap and we enjoy a good project. So she copied them and made one for herself and one for me.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AI031oHHoms/TTycdZzwDyI/AAAAAAAAACw/B_4Dzu671EA/s1600/myvintagebooks.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" s5="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_AI031oHHoms/TTycdZzwDyI/AAAAAAAAACw/B_4Dzu671EA/s320/myvintagebooks.bmp" width="274" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Here is mine (in front of the ice bucket I found at Salvation Army for $1.50... but that's another story!) How adorable is that? I love it. She said they were so easy to make. She bought old paperbacks from a thrift store, ripped the covers off and tied them in a stack using twine. I bent up the corners of the pages a little because I wanted even more of a vintage feel.</div>KTbeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271099895915876159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519778168443463074.post-11721623387276659672011-01-18T10:50:00.000-08:002011-02-22T16:20:00.927-08:00Love Is In the Air<div style="text-align: justify;">It's almost February, which of course means time for some Valentines Day crafts! I made these felt hearts last night that I plan to glue magnets onto the back and use as refrigerator magnets for the holiday. I think I also want to make a couple larger ones with a loop of rick-rack on the top to hang them on doorknobs. I love felt! It's so cheap and easy. You can't argue with 25¢ per sheet!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EWc89Jpn9WQ/TVth5c5D2xI/AAAAAAAAAGs/BLJcK0iINb8/s1600/v-day+felt2.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" j6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EWc89Jpn9WQ/TVth5c5D2xI/AAAAAAAAAGs/BLJcK0iINb8/s320/v-day+felt2.bmp" width="299" /></a></div></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I cut out patterns on paper first, then pinned them to the felt.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then cut, sew, done! Added some buttons for character.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div></div>KTbeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07271099895915876159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519778168443463074.post-56618680677093027132011-01-17T19:08:00.000-08:002011-02-19T20:06:46.429-08:00And so it begins...<div style="text-align: justify;">If you were to look at my Facebook page, you'd think all I do is refinish old furniture and work on other crafty projects. I need a new outlet to show off my projects - and hopefully find other bloggers to follow and get new ideas from! :)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">I'll start it off by posting pictures of my most recent project, a $10 Salvation Army stool I painted and recovered. When I saw it I immediately said "OMG it's so cute!" and my boyfriend, Tim, responded with a grimace. I love being able to see the potential in a piece of old furniture that others don't see.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="281" j6="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NuaB3h7BLL4/TWCSAxo8SGI/AAAAAAAAAHE/c8H0Kv0EjX4/s320/stool.bmp" width="320" /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">Here it is in my car on the way home.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="292" j6="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AkML_zoK5rM/TWCSKc3OXPI/AAAAAAAAAHI/zgkT8OlrBMw/s320/stool+2.bmp" width="320" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">After sanding and 3 coats of paint that I already owned from a previous project. Still has the original fabric on it. Didn't have the fabric yet but couldn't wait to see what it'd look like with the top back on.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" j6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-J9DGi_CrfdU/TWCSS8kuvnI/AAAAAAAAAHM/JBPdUaRxIFs/s320/stool+3.bmp" width="320" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And the completed project (next to a thrift store dresser I fixed up a while back).</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KIc5WShZa14/TWCSfGuOgdI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/lP9i-Fjeeas/s1600/stool+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" j6="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KIc5WShZa14/TWCSfGuOgdI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/lP9i-Fjeeas/s320/stool+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>My mom stenciled this fabric for me using fabric paint and a wall stencil! She did a fabulous job. Isn't it perfect?<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div>And so there it is! Hopefully I can keep at this thing and come back later to show off another project! Until next time!<br />
<br />
Chao,<br />
